Our Rabbi
Rabbi David Haiek serves as the Rabbi and Chazzan of the Sephardic Congregation of Paramus. With heartfelt Tefillot, a deep commitment to Torah & Chessed, and an uplifting presence grounded in Emunah, Rabbi Haiek brings warmth, tradition, and inspiration to his congregation and students alike.
Born and raised in Israel, Rabbi Haiek studied at Yeshivat Kfar Hasidim and the illustrious Yeshivat Ponevezh. He received semicha from the renowned Kollel “Darchei Hora’ah” under the guidance of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, HaRav Mordechai Eliyahu zt”l, and later from the Sephardic Midrash HaShahar in Jerusalem. He also proudly served in the Israel Defense Forces as a Chazzan and bereavement officer, ministering to soldiers and their families with dignity and compassion.
Rabbi Haiek has served communities in Israel, Singapore, and the United States, taking on roles in education, synagogue leadership, and youth programming. He currently teaches Judaic Studies—including Mishna, Chumash, Gemara, Navi, Halacha, and Tefillah—at the Sephardic Academy of Manhattan (SAM). He is beloved by his students for his joyful demeanor, inspiring Tefillot, and ability to connect through both Torah and music.
A master of Sephardic liturgy and the classical Maqam system, Rabbi Haiek is trained in Arabic music and infuses his Tefillah and Chazanut with authenticity, reverence, and emotional depth. Whether leading a Shabbat service or preparing a child for their Bar Mitzvah, his voice and presence elevate every moment.
Rabbi Haiek lives in Paramus with his wife Meirav, a second-grade teacher at Yavneh Academy, and their three wonderful children: Ari (16), Chani (14), and Harel (10). Together, the Hayek family is deeply devoted to building a vibrant Torah-centered home and community life filled with ahavat Yisrael, tradition, and joy.
